Launching the Charles Gimingham Award at Wildfire2024

We are delighted to announce the inaugural Heather Trust 'Charles Gimingham Award' for the most promising new entrant developing research contributing to wildfire science.

The award is named after Professor Charles Gimingham OBE, who was the Regius Professor of Botany at the University of Aberdeen and a pioneer of research in heathland ecology and fire management. He was also the first President of The Heather Trust.

We, therefore, invite applications from presenters (either poster submissions or spoken presentation) at the UK Wildfire Conference 2024, which is being held in Charles' home city of Aberdeen.

Applicants should either be a current research student (Masters or PhD) or someone who is within three years of having completed a PhD.

Interested applicants should, in the first instance, advise Eppie Sprung at The Heather Trust as soon as possible of their interest in being considered for the Award.

A copy of their poster or Powerpoint presentation should then be submitted to Eppie one week in advance of the conference for judging. Closing date is 12 noon on Tuesday 5th November 2024 for all submissions.

The specially designed award will be presented to the winner at the UK Wildfire conference dinner on Tuesday 12th November 2024 by Professor Rob Marrs - himself a past President of the Trust.
